Clamp Types, Torque, and the Right Way to Seat a Hose
The clamp is as important as the hose itself. Kei trucks leave the factory with
spring-type clamps (also called constant-tension clamps) on most coolant connections. These are actually excellent clamps — they self-adjust as the hose expands and contracts with heat, maintaining consistent clamping force over the life of the hose. If you're replacing OEM spring clamps with worm-drive (screw-type) clamps, use quality stainless units and be careful not to overtighten. Overtightening a worm-drive clamp on a fresh hose cuts into the rubber and creates a failure point.
Installation tips:
- Lubricate the hose end lightly with fresh coolant (not silicone grease, which can cause the hose to slip off under pressure)
